Sleep
For months, CE has been waking me up just about every night. A week ago we told her if she stayed in her bed she could earn a ticket and after earning so many she could get something she wanted. It worked 6 of the last 7 nights. She earned her princess play doh set Sunday. And then last night...12:30 "mommy! Mommy!" I was in her bed until 2:00. At 4:00 I heard little feet come in my room. At that point I let her climb into bed.

Skating with the Sisters
We drove to Everett yesterday for the 2nd annual Skating with the Sisters. CE was so anxious about going and said she didn't want to skate. I couldn't believe how great CE did. Once she and Sean got out there she didn't want to stop. She skated for over an hour! Her friend Nora was there as well, I think that helped. She got to skate with Anna and Elsa.

Giddens celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Giddens spent the last few weeks learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in preparation for their annual March for Peace & Justice. Carrie Ella learned about Rosa Parks and how "now we can sit in the front and the back of the bus." She also told us one evening that Dr. King died because he changed the world and the bad guys didn't like that. This is one of the many reasons I love Giddens School <3 We marched to the Langston Hughes center where the students read poetry and talked about the legacy of Dr. King.

Giddens Preschool Fall Narrative Report
Preschool Fall Narrative Report
Child’s Name: Carrie Ella Maloney
Birth Date: 11-29-11
Teachers: Zada Lofton and Priya Manion
Report Date: Fall 2015
Social and Emotional Development:
Carrie Ella is a delightful person. She is self-disciplined and demonstrates self-regulating skills. She has become friends with many of her peers and is helpful to others. She works and plays cooperatively, but is also independent and assumes responsibility appropriately. Carrie Ella is becoming comfortable expressing herself to her peers, as well as her teachers. We are helping her to verbalize and express her feelings in words. She respects authority and rules, but in situations where she does not want to do something, she will say "I don’t want to do it" or "Why?" I have observed that when Carrie Ella does not feel confident or is unsure of a task, she shuts down. Once she regains her confidence or understanding of what is being asked, she is quick to participate.
Large and Fine Motor Development:
Carrie Ella enjoys outdoor play, especially playing tag or climbing. She can also be found on the swings and in the sand area. She is able to move with coordination and balance, and has no trouble alternating her feet while climbing stairs. Carrie Ella enjoys P.E. and actively participates in the games and exercises. During P.E., she is practicing moving her body with increased control and learning to use large motor skills to catch, kick, and jump. In terms of fine motor development, Carrie Ella is practicing with child-sized scissors and also can complete 4-6 piece puzzles.
Cognitive Development:
Carrie Ella keeps herself very busy in the classroom and loves to explore her environment. She is enthusiastic and lively when exploring new and interesting materials. Carrie Ella began the year building simple flat structures, but recently, has begun to build two-dimensional structures. She is working on naming, identifying, and classifying fruits and vegetables, as well as dabbling in pre-math materials.
Creative Expression:
Carrie Ella enjoys playing imaginary games in the dramatic play area. Many of her favorite roles include using a pretend cash register. She will pretend to buy food with the play money from the cash register, and then will pretend to take the change and the groceries on the rocket ship back to her family. We like to foster her creative growth through story-telling exercises and
dramatic games. Carrie Ella also expresses herself through art projects. She is always excited when sharing them with an adult. She enjoys working with play dough and is starting to use it to mold and sculpt. She loves to participate when we are doing music in the class, playing with the instruments and singing along. She is even opening up to the idea of dancing with her peers.

Vacation
A nice long break for all of us. CE says she doesn't want to go back to school. I think everyone will be happy to get back to a normal routine and less candy!
