Cape Disappointment

We drove 5 hours to the southern WA coast last weekend for two nights of camping in Ilwaco. (1 hour more due to I-5 traffic).

The night started off great despite some rain as we set up camp and prepared dinner.

Things went down hill quickly once it was CE's bedtime. We started putting her down just before 10:00, she didn't fall asleep until 2:00 AM. I blame myself...

The next morning came way too quickly.  After a delicious burrito breakfast wrap a la Sean, we headed down to Benson Beach which was a hop skip and jump from our camp site.  We could hear the waves at night!  The morning started off cloudy....but we could see some promising blue skies coming through.

We drove to Astoria, OR for lunch where Sean got out and saw The Goonies House. CE was sleeping so I stayed in the car.

We headed back from OR to Long Beach not far from Cape Disappointment Park after lunch.  According to signage, its the World's Longest Drivable Beach.  It was very pretty. CE liked the kites.

There was an old car show going on in Long Beach and it was kinda insane. Lots of people.
Carrie Ella wanted an ice cream cone so we watched some of the madness. People were lining the streets with chairs to watch cars head to the fair grounds for the actual show.
I tried to take CE on a merry go round, but she freaked out, so we got off.

When we got back to camp that afternoon we headed back to Benson Beach.  We had a lot of fun!

A nice woman walking the beach offered to take some family shots.

Loves kites!

"I'll show you how to do downward dog daddy!"

Before dinner we ran down to the beach to catch the sunset.  It was beautiful!

Carrie Ella went down much better the second night.  She was exhausted and we had some lessons learned.  We let her cry it out and she slept great the entire night.

I hope we will have a chance to go back someday.  There are so many places a person can visit in the PNW, I don't know if we'll ever scratch the surface.  Oh, first world problems!
