Hawaii Vacation

A bit overdue...
We all had a bit of jet lag coming back and it took us a few days to recover but it was worth it.  We had a really amazing trip.  Carrie Ella had a blast!  I think she loved the freedom of opening the screen door and running outside barefoot.

There were times I thought she'd lost her mind as she ran around giggling and throwing herself on the floor.  (Usually towards the end of the day in bed time delerium.)

While the weather wasn't the greatest, we made the best of it.  (And who am I kidding?  I hate the sun, and the sun hates me!  Still nursing a sun rash, apparently I've got PMLE.)  But it was WARM so that's all that mattered!

Friday 4/12 - Overcast day.  We spent the morning at the beach.  From Poipu beach we walked (short walk) to Brennecke Beach down the way. Its a perfect beach for kids, calm shallow waters and a playground close by.
CE was pretty scared about the whole ocean thing, but eventually warmed up and enjoyed playing with her sand bucket.  (Didn't have phones/camera to take pictures)

For lunch we went to Puka Dogs in Poipu "Village", which were ok.  (Tasted like a hotdog stuffed in a lemon custard donut.) CE was only interested in the ketchup which was a new discovery.
After we headed back to the condo for a nap.In the afternoon we checked out Baby Beach, which Sean and I both agree, does not quite live up to its name.  The water was way to rough for babies, but it was secluded and quiet. Perfect to sit and read a book or have a romantic beach picnic.

After we headed to Keoka Paradise for dinner in Poipu Village.  It was pretty good and CE enjoyed the sweet potato fries.

After dinner we walked around a bit and CE ran and giggled, having the best time ever.

Saturday 4/13
We knew the weather was going to be bad, no idea that it would be pouring down rain, thunder lightning, etc... That morning we drove to a market in Kekaha and bought a bunch of yummy fruits.

On the way back we stopped at Weimea (Ishihara market) for some ahi tuna poke.  Was pretty yummy.
Sean took CE for a walk in the rain before her afternoon nap.  We Seattleites don't let the rain stop us from having a fun (and we were prepared with our rain gear).

Sean and I settled on the couch to watch This is 40 as it did this outside....

We had some dinner at Pizetta in Koloa, the small town close by.
By the end of the day the rain stopped at we drove up to Sprouting Horn and took in a gorgeous sunset.
Chickens run wild everywhere on the island.  CE found it entertaining.
Sunday 4/14 Another overcast day.  We drove up to Kapaa and checked out Lydgate Beach then went to Verde for an excellent Mexican lunch.

Laua at the Grand Hyatt - I wish I could say this was fun.  Because of the weather it was moved inside and CE was a handful, so one of us was always chasing her.

Monday 4/15 - Headed out for breakfast
She may have been born in WA, but NY runs deep.  Yankees and bagels!

Poipu Beach (beach where we stayed)
Sun trying to break through the clouds

Tuesday 4/16
SUN!  We drove to Hanalei Bay.  The beaches there were amazing and its a beautiful area of the island.

Lumahai Beach

Love these shots, can't pick just one so.....

Haena Beach

We planned to do a 2 mile hike on Kalalua Trail, but I wasn't wearing the right shoes, so we only went a 1/2 mile to this scenic overlook of Ke'e beach.  Not long after we were swimming in that gorgeous water.
Carrie Ella enjoyed the hike from my back in the Beco.

Sunset from our Condo
Wednesday 4/17
Sun again!  Spent the morning at Poipu Beach.

Sean waiting to catch a wave on a boogie board.  Never happened.

Then to the pool.  CE liked the rock baby pool area!  Sean and I liked the slide :-)

In the afternoon we drove to Brennecke beach.  CE played in the water for the last time.

Can't wait to go back to Hawaii someday!!
